How About That Weather We're Having?

London weather has not only lived up to my expectations, it has surpassed them. I think I've only seen the sun three times since I got here with a combined total time of 15 1/2 minutes. Of course, I knew this going into the London study abroad program, but I'm probably still going to complain about it from time to time so forgive me.

We didn't do all that much today. We had the last of our Arcadia Orientation meetings this morning which went over the basics of the UK education system. It was slightly intimidating to find out our entire grade rests on one assignment due at the end of the semester, but I think once we figure out our classes and everything it'll be all right. Afterwards, a couple of us ran out to get new phones so that we could actually get in touch with one another in the city. I got the cheapest one there was, and I honestly already want to throw it under a double-decker bus. It does what I need it to do, but it's more annoying to use than the first cell phone I ever had. It feels like I down-graded at least seven generations of phones. Oh well, it's only 3 months after all.

The British Museum

Once we got the phone situation worked out, a group of us headed over to the British Museum. We spent a couple of hours walking through the exhibits all the way from Ancient Egypt to Ancient Greece to sections of British History. And not only did we see the Rosetta Stone but we also saw the mummy and sarcophagus of Cleopatra. It was so bizarre to stand there and realize just how old all of these artifacts (and people) were, though some of the other mummies skeeved me out.

The mummy of Cleopatra

We took a little afternoon siesta after the museum before I met up with three other girls from orientation to grab dinner and walk around Oxford Circus. It was already raining by the time we left and it only got worse as we continued to walk. Because we were basically soaked within minutes, we decided to suck it up and not let it ruin our night. I think we walked farther in two hours than I walked all day--and in the rain! I swear if I don't have calves of steel by the end of this trip, something is wrong. But we walked into a couple of shops to look around and got even more familiar with the Tube. Surprisingly, there are just as many people out on the street in the rain as there are in  better weather. Everyone's just used to here I guess--I wonder if they even notice it anymore. Anyway, that was about it for the day, nothing too exciting. But we finally move into our dorms tomorrow! And to end this post, here's a nice picture of a classic, red double-decker bus.
